Samsung MR-00EA1 MediaLive Digital Media Adapter Review

There's always a BUT, right. Anyway, this product, in my opinion, is relatively decent, but there definately could be some improvements. The wireless portion could be better - not very good. I don't know if it's the technology that Samsung chose to use or what, but the wireless connection could definately use some improvement. The computer is upstairs and the Samsung TV is downstairs, and in ordinary circumstances I would say that that could play a role in the bad wirelss connection, but everything else on my LAN is operating flawlessly even when it is downstairs in the same general location. The other devices also have very good wireless connections even though they are downstairs, so I don't know. I also don't like the fact that you MUST use the MediaLive device with specific models of SAMSUNG TV's and ONLY Samsung TV's. My goodness, they even came up with their own HDMI cable. I'm assuming they did this so no one could use the cable with any other device :). I tried to use it on other devices with HDMI connections, but it was a no go. Over all, I think this product is GOOD. Unfortunately because of the bad wireless service of the device, I've had to run a CAT 5 cable to the downstairs area. Hopefully Samsun will provide some updates to improve upon their device.

Moxi MR-1500T3 HD Digital Video Recorder Review

After doing some research between the Moxi and Tivo HD, I made the terrible mistake of choosing a Moxi. I have to say that the potential is there to be a great product, but at this point in time (mid June 2009), it is not quite there yet.

The recordings show a lot of pixelation and audio drop-outs for both HD and non-HD channels. After several email exchanges with Moxi tech support, they told me that this is a known bug and will be fixed in the next software release.

I did not want to take the chance and be stuck with a $799 brick after Amazon's 30-day return period, and I certainly did not sign-up to beta-test a product, so I decided to return it after less than a week of ownership.

I'm going with Tivo HD.

TiVo C00210 TiVoGlo Premium Remote Control, Black Review

I finally purchased one of these and couldn't be happier. I've been a Tivo user since they first came out and am on my third box now. As such, the standard Tivo "peanut" remote has become like an extension of my hand. I never have to look at it, every button is right where I expect it to be.

Last year I bought a new television and home theater system that didn't have remote codes for the standard Tivo remote.
I bought three different universal remotes and they all worked, but I didn't like they way they feel. I don't tend to return items, so they're all just sitting in an end table.

After unboxing the "Premium Glo" remote and finding 4 AAA batteries to throw in it, I had my TV's power and input as well as my receiver's power and volume programmed in literally under a minute. I programmed my receiver's power to the mute button on the Glo remote. I still need the receiver remote around, but I don't have to touch it to turn everything on and start watching TV/Tivo. Excellent!

The buttons are spaced slightly different than the original Tivo remote, but I got used to that in a few days. The button feel is also a little different but I like it. Yes the buttons glow after you touch one when it's dark. I could care less and I'm glad you can turn that feature off.

If there were Cons, this would be them: I don't have that many gadgets that take AAA's so I tend not to keep those around, now I'm going to have to. The shiny rather than textured surface of the plastic attracts fingerprints, not that I care, but maybe that's important to you. The button placement and feel might be a negative to someone who REALLY, REALLY doesn't want a change from the original Tivo remote. It's @ $50, which is expensive for a non-universal remote, meaning, it doesn't fully replace all my remotes.

I like it, it nets out to taking one more remote(TV) off the coffee table, and I get to keep my Tivo remote shape, size, and feel. That's worth $50 for me, and if it's the same for you, you'll like it too.

TiVo TCD649080 Series2 80-Hour Dual-Tuner Digital Video Recorder Review

The product works fine, however I was not told that you have to have TIVO service for it to work. I did not purchase it for the TIVO system, but to use it solely as a DVR hooked to my computer. Consequently I had to purchase the yearly service of $129.00 just to be able to use it for my purpose which I feel is unfair. I did not choose to send it back due to the shipping costs of returning it and also that they allow you to use it for two weeks without purchasing the service. I didn't hook it up right away due to being on vacation when it arrived. I was too close to being over the return point as well. I feel it was unfair to advertise this product without foreclosing the fact that to use it simpley as a DVR you still need to purchase the high cost of TIVO.

Not much to say. You just plug it in and it works. Simple to set up and use. I recently upgraded my Tivo to a HD Series III. I was dissappointed that I could not use the network adapter that I previously used with my older Series II Tivo. The newer Tivo support for network adapters are limited.

TiVo TCD658000 HD XL Digital Video Recorder Review

My cable company support for their Moxi DVR was declining, so I begin to look for other options, including satellite. The TiVo features stood out...especially the features of connection to my home commuter network, providing TiVo's own version of Video on Demand via Amazon.com, Netflix, and other websites. In addition, the ability to transfer recorded video within that network provided a recording backup capability only dreamed about by cable DVR users. Also, when I uncovered all the hidden cost of renting Charter's DVR (it turned out to be $20/month) and did the math, I realized that TiVo was actually cheaper to own in the long-run, and had many more features...especially cheaper if I cancelled some of my premium channels and replaced them with a subscription to Netflix.

But I had a series of problems: After purchasing the TiVo HD XL from Amazon.com, it arrived defective...it would constantly reboot itself. But rather than contact Amazon, I contacted TiVo's customer service. After a short series of test with me on the phone, TiVo agreed the DVR was defective, and quickly shipped another, also paying the postage to return the one purchased from Amazon. However, the 2nd TiVo also arrived with a version of the same defect, and again this was quickly exchanged. Finally, the 3d TiVo arrived, and worked perfectly. I was so impressed with it's capabilities, and TiVo's customer service, that I decided to also purchase the TiVo HD model for my wife to use as her own, knowing we could transfer recording between the two DVRs. This would also provide her with an incentive to learn to use the DVR, and not depend on me to record her favorite programs.

But again, I had the same problem with this model ...but also again, TiVo customer service was outstanding, this time agreeing to lengthen my guarantee period if I would accept another replacement, rather than a refund. I have now had both TiVos for 6 months, and they continue to work perfectly. Having the two TiVos also resulted in more user friendly setup for my wife, which she now takes full advantage of it, including the recording capabilities of TiVo. In addition, with TiVo's relationship with Netflix, we are now watching much more recent movie releases...some on DVDs, and others via instant downloads onto the Tivo.

I have read that a constant rebooting of a TiVo is an indication of a hard drive failure, and the only thing that now makes sense to me is that the defective TiVos I received might have experienced some rough handling in their UPS route to my home. However, I am very glad that I was patient with TiVo's customer service, because they were very patient with me, and the TiVo HD XL and HD models are well worth it.

TiVo TCD652160 HD Digital Video Recorder Review

I have only had this unit a month but so far I really do like it, my only gripe was the small hard drive but I solved that with a 1Tb external drive. I am not fond of the fact that the hard drives run 24/7 but I knew that going into the purchase and I guess it is the nature of the beast. I really do like not having to look at all the commercials now, I can look at an hour show in 45 minutes.
